Once the Bryan Mbeumo deal is finalized, Manchester United are likely to focus on adding a ruthless striker to the team following the disappointment of last season. Alexander Isak of Newcastle would be a dream target.
The Swede scored 23 goals in the Premier League and 27 overall while also adding six assists to his name. In comparison, United’s No.9 Rasmus Hojlund managed a meagre four league goals.
Ruben Amorim is eager to replace the Dane this window, and as per Tutto Juve, the Red Devils are keeping a close eye on the Newcastle superstar.
A move looks difficult given the Magpies value their No.9 at £150 million. But the former Real Sociedad ace has a contract with the St James’ Park side until 2028 and teams could potentially acquire him on the cheap next summer onwards.
The report mentions that apart from the 20-time English league champions, Arsenal and Chelsea are also monitoring the 25-year-old’s situation, and in a bid to ward off suitors, Newcastle want to agree a new long-term deal with the Sweden international.
They not only want to agree a new deal, they are prepared to make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history.
“Alexander Isak is establishing himself as one of Newcastle United’s absolute protagonists, becoming a key point of reference in the Magpies’ sporting project. At just 25 years old, the Swedish striker has shown all his value in the Premier League, attracting the attention of top English clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
“Newcastle management is already moving to secure Isak’s future with a long-term contract renewal proposal. The goal is clear: block the interest of the Premier League big clubs by offering the player a record salary, which would make him the highest paid player in the club’s history.
“Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are watching. His performances have not gone unnoticed, and several top clubs are monitoring his situation ahead of the upcoming transfer window.”
This would all but end any hopes of landing him in the near future. Till now, United’s attempts at recruiting a top-level striker have not gone to plan.
Liam Delap chose Chelsea over a switch to Old Trafford, while Victor Osimhen’s wage demands have meant a move is unlikely this window.
Viktor Gyokeres could be back on the menu but whether Ruben Amorim will go after a player who has publicly rejected United in the recent past remains to be seen.
The club could be forced to dip into their B list of targets, which includes Randal Kolo Muani as well as Moise Kean.
