Bernabei played in the Brazilian Championship for International in 23 matches, the 24 year-old left back scored 3 goals and provided 6 assists, and was elected the best left-back in the competition. That’s in contrast to his time at Celtic where he failed to establish himself at left-back and looked defensively vulnerable playing in the Hoops.
Speaking to International’s official website Bernabei was clearly delighted to seal his move back to the club this time on a permanent contact to running through until December 2028.
“First of all, thank you all very much. I am very happy to be back home.” the former Celt said. “It tells us the joy I have to be here. Let’s go for a year full of beautiful things and good things. It was a bit of a strange experience because I didn’t know what fate had in store for me but I tried to stay calm that things were going to go wrong.
“I was always sending messages, asking and that made me very anxious and want to know what was going on.
“The support I received from the good group that exists as a family, the coaching staff, the leaders, I think that they handled themselves and continue to handle themselves in a good way and with me they were all very good and kind. So that always made me feel united as part of the group.”

The official International social accounts are certainly pleased at getting this deal across the line with Michael Nicholson at Celtic, who looks to have done a superb job recovering the transfer fee of around £3.75m paid to Argentina side Lanus back in 2022.
That appears to have been achieved at the very least and indeed if earlier informed speculation is correct the Celtic CEO will have negotiated a tidy profit of top. That profit could be around £1.25m with reports suggesting that International has paid £5m for Bernabei.

He’s staying! A standout for Colorado in 2024, the year he was chosen as the best left-back in the Brasileirão, Alexandro Bernabei signed a permanent contract with Clube do Povo until December 2028. In an exclusive interview with Canal do Inter, the Argentine highlighted his joy at remaining at Beira-Rio and projected the next seasons with the red shirt. Watch!
Best of luck to Alexandro at International, always thought that there was a decent somewhere waiting for us to discover but it seems that he is going to flourish in Brazil rather than in Paradise.
