Alexis Duarte has undergone knee surgery and is completing his rehabilitation at Santos, despite being on loan at Libertad in Paraguay.

The defender ruptured ligaments in his right knee on the second of March, during his Libertad debut against San Lorenzo in the Paraguayan league, according to Globo.com.

He has been working at CT Rei Pelé and posted a photo from the training ground on social media, captioning it with a message of faith.

His loan runs only until June, aligned with the end of the Torneo Apertura.

At Santos he fell out of favour after errors in the opening-round defeat to Chapecoense, when he was involved in three of the four goals conceded.

Santos sent him out to secure regular minutes and a Paraguay call up for the World Cup, plans that the injury has frustrated.

He joined for four million dollars, around R$ 24 million, in September last year.

He made only six appearances, roughly 500 minutes, and trailed Adonis Frías and Zé Ivaldo in the pecking order.

In last year’s Brasileirão he was at fault in a defeat to Ceará and in a draw with Botafogo, when he was substituted at half-time.
