Alfredo Davicce, the former River Plate president who oversaw a golden era between 1989 and 1997, has died aged 96.

According to SuperDepor.com, River’s community was in mourning on Friday following the announcement of his passing.

Under Davicce, River won seven domestic titles and claimed two continental trophies. The period included the 1996 Copa Libertadores and the 1997 Supercopa Sudamericana.

He joined the club in the 1960s and was elected president in 1989, defeating Osvaldo Di Carlo, grandfather of current club chief Stefano Di Carlo. After leaving office in 1997, he served as vice-president to David Pintado until 2001.

In 2021 he attended a club gathering with Hugo Santilli and Rodolfo D’onofrio, the other River presidents to lift the Libertadores, sharing memories from his tenure.

His domestic honours as president were Primera División 1989/1990, Apertura 1991, Apertura 1993, Apertura 1994, Apertura 1996, Clausura 1997 and Apertura 1997.
