Casemiro has sent a message of gratitude to Manchester United supporters upon confirmation that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
Earlier on Thursday, United released an official statement announcing that Casemiro will depart Old Trafford upon the expiry of his contract.
United had an option of extending his stay by an extra year but opted against exercising it. A report covered by The Peoples Person also relayed that Casemiro could activate his additional 12 months at the club by starting a certain number of games this season.
However, the door is now firmly closed on both options.
Casemiro joined United in the summer of 2022 after an extremely successful spell in Spain with Real Madrid. He has so far made 146 appearances for the Red Devils, contributing 21 goals in that period.
The Brazilian was a regular under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, while he was also named in the starting XI for Michael Carrick’s first game as interim head coach. He produced a sensational performance to help United to a dominant 2-0 victory over Manchester City.
In a brief interview with club media, the veteran midfielder thanked the fans for their support and reflected on his fondest memories in England.
Casemiro said, “It means so much, not just for me, but for all my family.”
“It is so special and I will always carry this club with me for all my life. I will always be a Manchester United fan, my whole family too.”
“In England, I am red, I am Manchester United until death. So all I want to say is: thank you for everything.”
He added, “[On] my presentation, my first day, since I arrived at the airport, everybody, the fans have been very, very warm with me. Not just with me, but with my whole family.”
“The day I first came into the stadium the fans were already singing my name and my songs, and I am never going to forget this, of course.”
“It isn’t a goodbye, it is just a chapter in my life, I will always be with Manchester United.”
“Thank you, thank you everyone that made this time in my life so special, especially the fans. I will never forget my song! Thank you very much.”
Casemiro helped United win the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup a year later.
