Massimiliano Allegri stresses that Sunday’s game against Cagliari is the ‘most important for everyone’ and argues that a ‘strong club helps everyone work better, making it easier to get results.’
Milan host Cagliari in the last game of the season on Sunday and the Rossoneri must secure a win to qualify for the Champions League. The Rossoneri have a two-point lead over fifth-placed Como and Juventus, but they’ve been in poor form recently, despite last week’s 2-1 win away at Genoa.
“Let’s say that the rhythm of 2026 has been tragic,” Allegri said at a press conference via Milannews.
“We’ve only earned one point in the last three home games. Those are the numbers. Tomorrow it’s the last game of the season, and this is the last pre-match press conference of the season. Thanks for putting up with me. We also had a bit of fun, which is the most important thing.
“We’ll face Cagliari with great respect. They have a debutant coach, Pisacane, who has done a great job,” Allegri continued.
“They’ve had a good season and I’m happy because I have a solid bond with Cagliari. Tomorrow, we’ll have to play a serious game. With a positive result, we’ll qualify for the Champions League.”
Inevitably, most of the questions were about Allegri’s future at the club.

The Italian tactician is under contract until 2027 and the deal will automatically be extended by one more season if Milan qualify for the Champions League.
“The future is tomorrow, and it’s the most important game for everyone,” Allegri said.
“The stadium will be sold out, and a victory must be a way to thank those who have supported us this season, also during difficult times. Those will be tough 100 minutes. There’s a lot of pressure, but we’ll need serenity.
“There’s only one risk we run: being superficial. The mistake to avoid tomorrow is to face the game with less focus than against Genoa. The attitude will be fundamental; we must do the same things we did in Genoa. Everyone talks on social media; we must remain focused on our target despite all the criticism.”
Allegri has had arguments with Senior Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic and CEO Giorgio Furlani this season, and owner Gerry Cardinale has already announced that he’ll review the club’s organisation for next season.
“I’ll say one thing, the most important one. The one who has to pull everything is always the club. A strong club certainly helps everyone work better, making it easier to get results, Allegri argued.
“The basis of the results depends on what the club is. It is the club that drives everything. The ownership has always stood by the team, and in recent times, it has come to understand its importance and has grown even closer, so we are happy. Tomorrow, we hope to win and secure Champions League qualification.
“I was lucky enough to be with Cellino, Berlusconi and Agnelli. It is not true that the owner is aseptic or has less passion,” Allegri added.
“Cardinale demonstrated this by coming to Genoa, it was very important. Milan have their own history and DNA, which must be respected: everyone who works at Milan must have the passion to achieve results.
“When someone works with the utmost passion and professionalism, nothing should be reproached. I am not the saviour of anything. I know I have an amazing group of guys who have to set the goal of the season for us tomorrow, and they have to do it together with the fans. The stadium will be packed, and they will have to give us a hand because it will be a difficult match.”
Reports in Italy claim that Igli Tare will leave Milan at the end of the season, while Adriano Galliani could return to the club if Furlani goes.
“Those are club dynamics. I must focus on being a coach, which is not easy. The ownership must address the club’s dynamics and what’s best for Milan,” Allegri replied when asked about Galliani’s potential return.
“It makes no sense to talk about Allegri or Tare. We must remain focused on the game, which is the most important thing for everyone.
“Allegri hasn’t asked for anything. I have a contract with Milan, and I’m very happy to be here,” concluded the Italian tactician.
“Tomorrow’s result will move the judgments one way or the other. If we go to the Champions League, we’ve got it right; if we go to the Europa League, we’ve made errors. Let’s wait for tomorrow.”

Allegri said the whole team will be available for tomorrow’s game, including Luka Modric. The Croat praised Allegri during an interview earlier this week, pleasing his coach.
“I was happy with Luka’s words, especially coming from him. Luka is an important example for all those who have worked here at Milanello,” Allegri said.
“The players have asked me to stay at Milanello, we stay well, and we have time to rest and work. It’s an act of awareness, knowing the importance of tomorrow’s game.”
