Almería have mocked Flamengo after the Brazilian club publicly pressed the Spaniards over unpaid sums from Lázaro’s 2022 transfer, which Flamengo put at more than €1.8m.
According to Globo.com, Almería replied on X, formerly Twitter, sharing an image of a referee in Flamengo’s colours and questioning why a verdict was being presented while the matter was still before the courts, then asking if it was an April Fools’ joke.
Flamengo later said in a statement that they had been compelled to cover amounts exceeding €1.5m and that a formal FIFA decision recognised their right to reimbursement, yet Almería had not complied. They calculated the overdue sum, after 590 days, at more than €1.8m.
Lázaro joined Almería in the second half of 2022. He was later sold to Al-Najma in Saudi Arabia for €5m and in 2024 moved on loan to Palmeiras.
The Spanish club’s post indicated the dispute remains in the courts following Flamengo’s public demand and the subsequent exchange on social media.
