Real Madrid are going through one of their most difficult moments of the season. Xabi Alonso faces a major challenge: rebuilding a team hit by injuries and shaken in pride just as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid will go into the game with as many as seven players missing as Dani Carvajal, David Alaba, Dean Huijsen, Eder Militao, Eduardo Camavinga, Ferland Mendy, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all unavailable.

Moreover, Kylian Mbappe also has a fractured finger while the trio of Antonio Rudiger, Federico Valverde, and Jude Bellingham are dealing with discomfort, although all four are expected to play.

Jose Reyes called up to training

Given the situation, manager Xabi Alonso called up youngster Jose Reyes Lopez to first-team training ahead of the Manchester City game, reports MARCA.

Reyes, 18, is the son of the late former Arsenal and Real Madrid player, Jose Antonio Reyes. A versatile forward, the teenager is currently a part of the Juvenil A setup at the Los Blancos’ academy.

The youngster had previously trained with the senior side under Carlo Ancelotti and has now been afforded the opportunity to do so under Alonso as well.

Reyes joined La Fabrica in 2019, arriving from the Leganes youth academy and has enjoyed a steady progress through the ranks. Not long ago, he signed a new contract with Real Madrid until 2027 after turning 18 years old.

It remains to be seen whether the youngster is added to the squad list for any of the upcoming matches.
