Xabi Alonso’s future at Real Madrid is not in any danger despite the 3-2 defeat against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday.
It was previously claimed that defeat in the Super Cup final could spell the end for Alonso in Madrid.
However, Spanish outlet AS says there is no sense of panic at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The current mood at the club is reportedly one of reflection, analysis and problem-solving, rather than blame.
Alonso has made a difficult start to life in Spain. His team are currently four points behind Barcelona in the La Liga table.
The Spanish boss had the opportunity to deliver the first available trophy of the season after their victory over Atletico Madrid in the semi-final of the competition.
Los Blancos endured a poor start to the final in Jeddah. Raphinha put the Blaugrana ahead in the 36th minute through a brilliant strike from inside the penalty area.
Thibaut Courtois produced two excellent saves before Vinicius Junior levelled the scores to end his 16-game goal drought.
Robert Lewandowski put Barca back in control by dinking the ball over Courtois, but Gonzalo Garcia quickly restored parity.
Alonso’s men were much improved in the second half, as Vinicius twice threatened to score.
Barcelona eventually won 3-2 after Raphinha’s deflected shot beat Courtois in the 73rd minute.
