Amad Diallo (23) has backed Michael Carrick to become Manchester United’s permanent manager, insisting the interim boss has already proved he has the qualities to restore the club’s direction and identity.
Carrick was placed in charge until the end of the season in January following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, inheriting a side drifting both in confidence and consistency.
During his time in charge of the club, the former United midfielder has overseen an impressive turnaround, guiding the team to seven wins and just one defeat in 10 matches. With seven games remaining, United now require four wins and a draw to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-year absence.
Despite the upturn, United’s hierarchy remain cautious and are expected to delay a final decision until the campaign concludes. Options have narrowed, with Thomas Tuchel committing to the England job and Roberto de Zerbi joining Tottenham, while United are yet to open talks with alternative candidates.
Speaking from the club’s four-day training camp in the Republic of Ireland and reported by BBC Sport, Amad said Carrick’s understanding of the club sets him apart. “He knows the club and has the DNA,” he said, praising Carrick’s strong relationship with the squad.
Striker Bryan Mbeumo echoed the sentiment, describing Carrick’s leadership as clear, calm and effective.
