Benfica right-back Amar Dedić has been called up by Bosnia and Herzegovina for this month’s World Cup play-off, which could rule him out of upcoming club games. According to Glorioso 1904, the fixtures decide qualification for finals in the United States, Mexico and Canada in June and July.
Bosnia meet Wales in the semi-final on 26 March in Cardiff. The tie will be pivotal to keeping their summer hopes alive.
If they progress, Sergej Barbarez’s side would face the winner of Italy against Northern Ireland in the final on 31 March. Victory there would secure a place at the tournament.
The call-up revives Benfica’s concern after the 23-year-old sustained a traumatic sprain to his right knee on Bosnia duty during the September FIFA window. That episode has heightened anxiety around another international period.
This season Dedić has played 36 competitive matches for Benfica, 17 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 14 in the Champions League, three in the Taça de Portugal, one in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 3,080 minutes he has scored one goal and provided three assists. He is valued at 15 million euros.
