América of Mexico and Monterrey made offers to Filipe Luís, who has been out of work since his early March exit from Flamengo, Marca states.

He declined, citing the fact both sides already have coaches. He has also long made clear his ambition to manage in Europe.

Flamengo were unhappy with the start of 2026 and decided to change head coach, agreeing terms with Leonardo Jardim before dismissing Filipe Luís.

By refusing clubs who already have a manager, his stance could be read as opposition to that hiring approach. Flamengo removed the club idol after a year and a half in charge, during which he won seven trophies.

América, led by Brazilian coach André Jardine, are eighth with 17 points from 12 games. Monterrey dismissed former Flamengo boss Domènec Torrent in February this year and remain with Nicolás Sánchez as interim, in ninth with 14 points.

While Filipe Luís waits for an opportunity, Leonardo Jardim’s Flamengo are unbeaten, with one draw in five matches and nine goals scored under the Portuguese.
