Club América have sealed a Clausura 2026 liguilla berth despite losing to Atlas, extending their run to 17 consecutive appearances, a Liga MX record for a single club.
As reported by Americayya.net, their campaign has been uneven. The match had seemed set to finish 0-0 until a late mistake proved costly.
The last time América missed the play-offs was Clausura 2017 under Ricardo La Volpe. They needed one point from the final three rounds but took none, losing to Santos, Atlas and Pachuca.
Had they qualified then, the sequence would be even longer, since before that you must go back to Clausura 2012 to find a play-off campaign without América.
Other long streaks include Tigres with 12 from Apertura 2014 to Apertura 2020, Cruz Azul with 10 from 1971 to 1980, and previous América runs of 11 from 1981 to 1991 and 10 from Clausura 2012 to Apertura 2016.
