Americans warm to France at World Cup, drawn by stars, goals and PSG pull

American crowds have been embracing France at the World Cup, turning stands blue as wins and star power draw in fresh support.
In Philadelphia on Saturday 4 July, US Independence Day and the date of France’s 1-0 last 16 win over Paraguay, France shirts were everywhere, according to L'Équipe.
One family, not French and never in Paris, said they dressed in blue as they would for baseball, choosing France to leave happy.
Fans from India did likewise. France keep winning and scoring, drawing in locals and adding to a travelling 3,000 to 5,000. Boston, Philadelphia and New York have all turned blue.
Brooklyn engineer Nick said even non-fans know Kylian Mbappé, a major pull for Les Bleus. With Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé and Michael Olise, he felt the star power and diversity resonate in the United States.
Former England defender Rio Ferdinand has called France the new Brazil, and Paris-Saint-Germain’s reach is evident in the stands.
In Foxborough for the 4-1 win over Norway, student Josh wore a PSG shirt. He said Paris captures his imagination, became a fan after the 2025 final against Inter Milan ended 5-0, and was happy to see Dembélé, Bradley Barcola and Désiré Doué. He believes PSG and France are the best club and national team in the world.
