Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Joshua Zirkzee's season is over due to injury and that André Onana is set to return to the fold.

Speaking ahead of the Europa League second leg tie at home to Lyon with the score at 2-2, the United boss confirmed that Zirkzee's injury will keep him out until the 2025/26 campaign.

"Joshua is out for the season," Amorim said about the Dutch forward who scored United's second last week.

"He is not going to play anymore this season. We must prepare him for next season. It is hard for any player to stop, but it's football. He has to be ready to recover."

Meanwhile, Ayden Heaven will miss the game after a 'small setback' while Jonny Evans is back in training but is not yet ready, however Matthijs de Ligt will return.

Inevitably, the questions from journalists revolved around the goalkeeping situation with André Onana culpable for both of Lyon's goals before being dropped for the defeat to Newcastle United at the weekend.

Amorim confirmed that André Onana would be back in the team tomorrow ahead of Altay Bayindir.

Asked to explain his decision, the Portuguese coach said: "I think as a former coach and a player, I try to do things that can help a player in this situation. We talk about managing players physically, but we also have to manage them mentally. This week, my thinking was to put Onana to play."
