In Manchester United’s final game before the international break, Ruben Amorim was dealt a substantial injury blow when Matheus Cunha limped off the pitch.
The summer signing lasted only 31 minutes before pulling up with an apparent hamstring problem and requiring treatment from the physios, after which he was forced to end his shift much earlier than he’d hoped.
United went on to win their clash with Burnley, securing their first victory of the campaign following a defeat to Arsenal on the opening day and an away draw at Craven Cottage.
However, fans couldn’t relish the three points too much amid growing concerns over Cunha’s state.

This season, Cunha has started all four of the Reds’ matches across the Premier League and League Cup. While he has yet to record a goal contribution, his attacking influence has been worlds apart from what supporters had grown accustomed to over the last year.
As such, the prospect of being without him for the trip to face Manchester City at the Etihad this Sunday is an incredibly daunting one – but he might have just hinted his return is closer than initially expected.
The Brazilian international, 26, shared a snap on Sunday night doing some work in the gym. He captioned the post: “Sundays” along with a smirking emoji, leading the Old Trafford faithful to believe he was alluding to a swift return to action.
Along with Cunha, fans are also eager to see whether the club’s final signing of the summer, Senne Lammens, will make his debut at the Etihad at the weekend. It’d certainly be nothing short of a baptism of fire, but a superb opportunity to hit the ground running with a top performance against such fierce rivals.
