Ruben Amorim suggested he will try to implement a similar style of play at Manchester United to the one that has brought him success at Sporting.
Amorim officially starts his role as Manchester United boss this week after leaving Sporting, where he won two Portuguese league titles during his time at the club.
He has favoured a three at the back formation at Sporting and suggested he would do similar at United.
“I know how I am going to play in the beginning because you have to start with a structure that you know,” Amorim said after his final game in charge of Sporting, a 4-2 win over his former club Braga.
“We don’t have a lot of time to train, so I have to show something that I know very well.”
Amorim also says he is aware of the difficulty of the challenge of turning things around at United, with the Red Devils currently sat 13th in the Premier League table after 11 games.
He said: “I feel ready for the new challenge. I’m not naive, I know it’s going to be very different, very difficult.
“I’m at peace now. I can focus on my new job and I’m looking forward to starting tomorrow.
“I know it will be difficult to reproduce what I have here anywhere else but there are other places with different exposure and pressure.”
