Prior to his sides must win game against Club Brugge, Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the defending Belgian champions. One player in particular was singled out for praise from the Spanish head coach: Hans Vanaken. The 32-year-old midfielder is a modern day Club Brugge legend, with 483 appearances for the side, 136 goals and multiple titles. As reported by HLN, Guardiola described Vanaken as ‘an extraordinary player’.

Many Club Brugge fans would agree. Despite having the chance to leave the club over the years, both Vanaken and Club have worked together to keep the midfielder in the Belgian Pro League. Vanaken and co have a real chance of qualification to the next round of the Champions League. They could also embarrass their Premier League opponents by knocking them out of the tournament at the same time. Even one point could be enough for Club to get through, but it would not be enough for City.
