Carlo Ancelotti has left out Corinthians goalkeeper Hugo Souza from Brazil’s squad to face France and Croatia on 26 and 31 March. According to Globo.com, the coach selected Alisson, Bento and Ederson instead.

After unveiling the last squad before the final call for the 2026 World Cup, Ancelotti said no position is fully settled and that Alisson, Bento and Ederson are the best options at present. He added that things could change by May and that players outside the squad need to play well, work well and be in good shape to convince the staff.

Hugo Souza had featured in recent Brazil squads. He remains the undisputed starter at Corinthians in 2026, with 16 appearances and 1,622 minutes.

He has also delivered in key moments, notably in the Paulistão quarter-finals against Portuguesa, when he saved three penalties in the shootout to secure qualification.

Aware of the player’s ambition, Corinthians do not plan to negotiate for less than 13 million euros for 60% of his economic rights, about R$ 78 million at current rates.
