Anderson Silva: legendary fighter, Corinthians fan favourite

Corinthians is a multi-sport club and, therefore, has idols in various sports beyond men's soccer. That's why it's common to see the Fiel (Corinthians fans) admiring athletes from courts, pools, and octagons. One of them is Anderson Silva, or “Spider,” as he is also known.

Anderson Silva began his career in 1997, in MMA. He spent nine years in mixed martial arts, and in 2006 he started fighting in the UFC. In total, Spider achieved 34 victories, 23 of which were by knockout, and 11 losses.

The partnership between Anderson Silva and Corinthians began in 2011 and lasted until 2014, when it ended by mutual agreement. He was signed with the intention of expanding the Timão name in the national and international fighting scene, something that was successfully achieved.

In February 2011, it was the first time the fighter wore the black and white jersey, in an unofficial fight against Vitor Belfort, in which he emerged victorious. The partnership was officially launched in Rio de Janeiro, during UFC 134.

After that, Anderson Silva represented Corinthians in four more fights, achieving two victories and two defeats, including that fateful match in which Spider ended up fracturing his leg.

Spider Fit

The end of the professional relationship between Timão and Anderson Silva did not end with the end of the sponsorship. In 2018, inside the Neo Química Arena, Spider Fit was opened, a gym that carried the fighter's brand and could be used by anyone who registered, regardless of whether or not they were a club member.

The gym remained at the stadium for two years, that is, until 2020. Currently, the space is occupied by a Red Fit network gym. Besides having this unit at Neo Química Arena, the company also carried out some actions with the club's Social Responsibility department.

Idolatry at Corinthians

Anderson Silva has always shown himself to be a Corinthians fan and, during the partnership, the fighter always honored the club and showed great gratitude for wearing the black and white jersey. This affection for Timão, along with the victories achieved, guaranteed Spider a special place in the hearts of the Corinthians fans.
