Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has emerged as a contender to become the next Manchester United permanent boss, according to the Telegraph.

The 43-year-old is strongly admired at the Old Trafford club for his attacking style but current Man United manager Michael Carrick remains the favourite to take over in the summer.

Iraola is leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season and will be available for free for suitors, and the Red Devils are keeping tabs on him.

There is a sense that he would fit into what Man United are trying to do, and the club will talk to other candidates as they insist Carrick has not been given the job yet.

They prefer someone with Premier League experience, and the Spaniard fits the bill, but he is also on the radar of Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils need just two more points to secure Champions League qualification after a fine run since Carrick arrived, and victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday will get the job done.

The club have won nine, drawn two and lost two of their league games under the former Man United midfielder, and it would be a surprise if Carrick is not eventually given the position.

He has boosted his chances of getting the job permanently with the results and performances, and the players and fans have been backing him to get the position.

Iraola has impressed with the Cherries since moving to the Premier League from Rayo Vallecano in 2023, helping Bournemouth to a 12th-place finish at the end of his debut campaign.

They ended ninth in the league table last term and are currently seventh ahead of the final four games, nine points off the top-five.

However, whether he has what it takes to manage a big club like Man United remains to be seen and handing Carrick the job makes plenty of sense.
