Andre Onana ended his Manchester United nightmare this summer by securing a temporary move to Trabzonspor.

The Cameroonian has been in fine form since his arrival in Turkey, keeping two clean sheets and conceding six goals in six games.

One of the 29 year old’s strengths is his ability on the ball, which has even earned him praise from Pep Guardiola in the past.

Onana has now responded to the Manchester City manager’s comments.

Honoured by Guardiola’s comments

Speaking recently, as cited by Sporx, Onana credited his teammates for helping him play out from the back. He said: “Most of the time, the important thing for me is to try to do the best for the team.”

“If I have to create a play, I analyse it first. Are the opponents pressing, are they pressing with their wingers, are they pressing with their strikers, or are their centre-backs coming forward?

“These are the things I need to see when I have the ball. I watch how the opponents are moving and then I look at the options and make my decision. Of course, it’s always great to hear a comment like that from Pep Guardiola. He’s one of the best managers in the history of football.

“But as I always say, most of the time, it’s my teammates who give me the options when I’m building up the game. If they help me, the work looks much better.”

Onana conceded 150 goals in 102 games during his time at the Theatre of Dreams, keeping just 24 clean sheets. His poor form prompted the Red Devils to act this summer.

United have already signed Onana’s replacement

United began the campaign with Altay Bayindir as their No. 1 in the Premier League. Onana’s only appearance for the English giants this season came in the disastrous defeat to Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup second round.

The Red Devils secured the signature of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day, before sending Onana on loan to Trabzonspor. The deal does not include an option to buy, although recent reports suggest that the Turkish club is considering making his stay permanent.

The Belgian, meanwhile, was afforded time to settle at Old Trafford before making his debut in the 2-0 win over Sunderland.

The 23 year old was so impressive that he has kept his place between the sticks since, and it’s no surprise that United have won all three games he has started.

If Lammens manages to maintain his strong start, there may be no way back for Onana at the Theatre of Dreams.
