The goalkeeper’s time at Old Trafford may be up
Manchester United have agreed a loan deal with Trabzonspor to send Andre Onana to Turkey for the rest of the season.
The arrival of goalkeeper Senee Lammens on Deadline Day, in a deal worth upwards of £18million, left United with four first-team shot-stoppers in Ruben Amorim's squad.
With Onana missing the start of the season through injury, Altay Bayindir started the first games of the Premier League campaign, and kept his place for the win over Burnley.
Onana's sole appearance so far this season came in the humiliating Carabao Cup loss to fourth-tier Grimsby Town, in which he was at fault for both opposition goals and did little to help his team in a penalty shootout defeat.
And now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Onana could be heading to Turkey after United and Trabzonspor reached an agreement over a loan deal.
Onana has not yet approved the move, but there is plenty of time to get the deal done as the window in Turkey remains open until September 12.
The former Ajax and Inter Milan goalkeeper has endured a tough two years at Old Trafford, with a number of high-profile clangers.
Speaking in August, Amorim backed his goalkeepers in the face of criticism from Gary Neville, jumped to Bayindir’s defence as well, placing his faith in Onana and Tom Heaton.
"I’m happy with the three goalkeepers,” the Man United head coach told reporters.
Neville disagreed, speaking on his Sky Sports podcast: "There's a glaring issue that Man Utd cannot ignore and it is the fact they need to find a goalkeeper.
"They have to ... it is really unsettling when you haven't got a dominant No 1, who is dominant in the air, who owns his six-yard box, comes and punches everything and makes a lot of saves to win you points when your defenders make mistakes.
