Back at Porto nine years on, André Silva is well placed to start the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, the only domestic competition he has never played. According to O Jogo, with three weeks until the season begins and limited internal competition, he has a clear route to the first official XI against Torreense.
Samu is sidelined until November and Deniz Gul’s future is uncertain. Porto are in the market for another striker, but the process could take time, with Villas-Boas having said more than once that major moves would come in August.
Silva has impressed at Olival, where Francesco Farioli is pleased with the forward’s intensity and attitude in training. The coach also highlighted a bicycle-kick goal the striker produced in a recent session.
Early pre-season testing brought excellent results for Silva, reflecting the work he did during the holidays. This came despite him not following the tailored off-season programme that new team-mates received from the club’s performance department.
He could get an early audition on Saturday when Porto face Hibernian behind closed doors, the first run-out of Farioli’s 2026/27 group.
In Türkiye, Deniz Gul has again been linked with Trabzonspor, who finished third last season. Porto would consider a favourable deal, but no club has made contact to date. The forward returns from post-World Cup leave at the weekend and is due to travel with the squad for the England camp.
