Andreas Christensen ready to repay Barcelona faith after contract extension | OneFootball

Earlier this month, Andreas Christensen signed a new two-year contract with Barcelona, a move that surprised many supporters. The Danish defender has barely featured over the last two seasons due to injuries, although he managed to do enough to retain the full support of head coach Hansi Flick and the rest of the sporting department.

Christensen is ready to put his injury woes behind him as he begins the next stage of his Barcelona career. As per MD, he spoke on Tuesday about his renewal, as he thanked the club for continuing to show faith in him.

“I’m very happy and very proud. I’m grateful that the club has given me another opportunity. I also believe the club trusts that I can get back to my best level. It’s great news for me and my family. This is the perfect place to be. We have a young team full of talent and we play football that I enjoy. It’s a place where I feel secure and where I can still keep growing.

“Hopefully I can have an injury-free season, I hope to be available all season. I am very confident in my possibilities. My goal is to be in shape, that’s what I’ve prepared for. I’m very grateful to renew and have this new opportunity.”

Christensen: I have more to learn at Barcelona

Christensen firmly believes that he can establish himself as a starter once again, as he also admitted that his teammates will be able to help him go up another level or two.

“It’s a young team, in which I can develop my game. The youngsters already arrive knowing the fundamentals and showing their qualities. They play for the best club in the world and the competition is good. They are young, but with experience, six have been in the World Cup final. There is a balance.”
