Andrés Gómez targets first clássico goal as Vasco seek new attacking spearhead | OneFootball

Without Rayan and Vegetti, Andrés Gómez has emerged as Vasco's attacking reference and is chasing his first clássico goal against Fluminense at the Maracanã on Wednesday at 21:30, in round seven of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

The Colombian has carried much of the attacking burden in 2026, involved in most of Vasco's moves and their standout performer. According to Globo.com, since arriving at São Januário no player in Série A has delivered more assists, though he is still short of goals.

He has 12 goal contributions in 36 appearances for Vasco but only two goals. Both were spectacular, a top-corner strike in the 5-1 over Internacional in the 2025 Brasileirão and a lob from the halfway line against Boavista in this year's Carioca.

Against Fluminense in last year's Copa do Brasil semi-finals, Gómez shone. In the first leg he made the play for Rayan's goal and crossed for Vegetti to turn the game. In the second, the tie might not have gone to penalties as his top-corner drive drew one of Fábio's saves of 2025.

He impressed again in the Campeonato Carioca semi-final, winning a penalty that Brenner missed in the second half of the return leg and keeping Fábio busy.

Rayan tormented Fluminense in 2025, and Vegetti also counted the rival among his favourite victims. As Renato Gaúcho looks to David, Brenner and Gómez for fresh reference points, the Colombian could be the key to victory in the clássico.
