The shirt number that Andrey Santos will sport at Manchester United has been confirmed as an official announcement of his transfer from Chelsea edges closer.

Deal sealed

Two days ago, news broke that United and Chelsea struck a deal for Santos, as part of the Red Devils’ efforts to bolster their attacking department.

Having missed out on top targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, United were forced to cast a wider net and this led them to Santos.

The Brazil international is said to be eager for regular playing time, which would not have been guaranteed at Chelsea especially after Moises Caicedo put pen to paper on a contract extension. United will pay Chelsea an initial £48m for Santos, with an additional £2m in what are described as ‘achievable’ add-ons.

Xabi Alonso’s side have also negotiated a 10% sell-on clause.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Santos successfully passed his United medical.

Fabrizio Romano subsequently revealed that the 22-year-old had signed his contract and can now be considered a United player.

As fans patiently wait for Santos’ unveiling, insider Sam Cohen has confirmed his kit number.

According to Cohen on X, “EXCLUSIVE: Understand Andrey Santos will wear the number 17 shirt at Manchester United, I’m told.”

Meanwhile, confirmation is still pending on the situation of Santos’ fellow countryman Ederson.

On Friday, Romano revealed that his switch to United has collapsed after the club subjected him to a closer medical scrutiny.

This information has been corroborated by Gianluca Di Marzio, although England-based journalists are insisting that it’s still on.
