Spurs went into Thursday’s London derby just a single point above the bottom three after West Ham beat Fulham and Nottingham Forest held Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Tottenham were on course to move four points clear of the relegation zone when Dominic Solanke broke the deadlock in the 34th minute.

However, Spurs proceeded to press the self-destruct button.

In the space of nine minutes before the break, Tottenham went from leading 1-0 to trailing 3-1 and being reduced to ten-men as Micky van de Ven was shown a straight red card for bringing down Ismaila Sarr in the penalty area.

The one-man disadvantage proved too much for the home side to overcome in the second half and they have now suffered five successive defeats in the Premier League, conceding 13 goals in the process.

Spurs' situation appeared to push Porro to his breaking point as he was unable to hide his anger upon being substituted in the 73rd minute.

After being replaced by Xavi Simons, it was noted on TNT Sports commentary that Porro had given fourth official, Ruebyn Ricardo, “a real earful” in a clear display of dissent.

That reaction could land the right-back in trouble with the Football Association (FA).

Porro’s team-mate Cristian Romero was hit with an FA charge following his sending off against Liverpool back in December after it was alleged that he “acted in an improper manner by failing to promptly leave the field of play and/or behaving in a confrontational and/or aggressive manner towards the match referee after being sent off”.

The Spurs captain was then handed a further one-game ban, causing him to sit out the FA Cup third round loss to Aston Villa at the start of January.

It remains to be seen if Porro will face a similar, or a punishment at all for his angry reaction to being substituted but given the predicament Tottenham are currently in, they can ill-afford to lose a key player in their bid to avoid relegation,

TNT Sports’ cameras also picked up Porro continuing to take out his frustrations as he reached the dugout, smacking a seat before finally taking his place among the substitutes.

Tottenham are back in action on Tuesday night as they face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last-16 before returning to Premier League action against Liverpool next Sunday.
