Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon is open to leaving the St James’ Park club this summer, according to the Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards.

The England international has not told Newcastle that he wants to leave, but the feeling inside St James’ Park is that the Magpies star will seek a move in the summer.

Gordon, a long-term Arsenal target, will not be short of suitors in the Premier League and across Europe, but the Toons’ asking price for him is likely to exceed £80 million.

The Gunners have a long-standing admiration for the Newcastle star and he has featured in recruitment planning meetings at the Emirates Stadium club.

Liverpool have also been linked in the past while Bayern Munich have recently emerged as credible suitors ahead of the summer window.

Gordon wants his future sorted before heading to the World Cup in June, and the Magpies are braced for early bids.

The 25-year-old wants to play in the Champions League regularly and Newcastle are likely to miss out entirely on European football next season after an underwhelming campaign.

They are currently 14th in the Premier League table after 32 games and will need significant improvement across their remaining six games to finish in the top-seven.

Gordon also wants to be challenging for the major trophies every season, and a move to one of the bigwigs will see an increase in his wages.

Newcastle are unlikely to stand in his way if he insists on leaving and they will hope to get as much as they can from suitors ahead of a much-needed squad rebuild.

Gordon may not be the only player leaving the club this summer, and the future of manager Eddie Howe could also determine the shape of the squad heading into next term.

The Newcastle boss could move on at the end of the season if he fails to guide the side to Europe, which would influence plenty of things on and off the pitch at the club.
