New Barcelona signing Anthony Gordon rejected a bigger financial proposal from the Premier League, to seal his Blaugrana switch.

This comes amid confirmation that Liverpool were also firmly in the running for the Englishman’s signature.

Winger Gordon is of course fresh off being unveiled as the latest addition to Hansi Flick’s star-studded Barcelona squad.

After the Camp Nou brass kickstarted negotiations with their counterparts at Newcastle United this week, an agreement was quickly found on the terms of a big-money transfer.

As alluded to above, though, the Spanish champions were not the only club in the running for the 25-year-old…

Liverpool, it is understood, were also willing to go all out to bring Gordon to Anfield, with a superior financial package for club and player alike.

As per a report from journalist Fernando Polo of Mundo Deportivo, though, the will of Gordon himself ultimately proved decisive:

‘Monday and Tuesday were tough days for Gordon. The pressure from Liverpool on his agents was very strong, and they were offering more than Barça in terms of salary and transfer fee. And Newcastle were already fine with it to provoke a bidding war. But Gordon avoided it. His decision was made.’
