Anthony Taylor will referee West Ham vs Leeds United on Sunday’s Premier League finale, with the stakes far higher for the hosts. The Premier League confirmed the appointment for the London Stadium.

Daniel Farke’s side have been safe for almost two weeks and are unbeaten in eight after last weekend’s 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion. West Ham have lost three in a row and sit 18th, two points behind Tottenham Hotspur with a far inferior goal difference.

Taylor has overseen 30 Premier League games this season, the most of any referee, averaging 20.33 fouls and 3.97 yellow cards per match. Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn will run the lines, Steve Martin is fourth official and John Brooks is on VAR.

The Manchester-born official has handled major fixtures including the Manchester derby and Chelsea against Arsenal, plus multiple Champions League and Europa League ties. He has refereed Leeds three times, an FA Cup win over Derby County, September’s 3-1 victory at Wolves and December’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool.

In that Liverpool thriller, Willy Gnonto won a penalty at 2-0 down after an initial corner call was overturned on review when Ibrahima Konate caught the winger. Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted, Anton Stach quickly added a second, Dominik Szoboszlai made it 3-2 and Ao Tanaka levelled in added time.

Leeds can still shape the relegation picture despite their own safety. West Ham must win and need Tottenham to lose at Everton to have any chance of staying up.
