Real Madrid are preparing for a defining night in the UEFA Champions League against Bayern Munich, and a key selection decision appears to have been made ahead of the clash with Bayern Munich.

According to journalist Miguel Angel Diaz, as relayed by Madrid Zone, Brahim Diaz is set to be handed a starting role, with Arda Guler expected to drop to the bench.

The decision comes at a time when Alvaro Arbeloa is dealing with a number of selection headaches.

The absence of Aurelien Tchouameni due to suspension has forced a rethink in midfield, making balance and tactical discipline more important than ever.

Initially, Eduardo Camavinga was seen as the natural option to step into that role. However, his recent outing against Girona appears to have raised doubts within the coaching staff.

After an underwhelming performance, all indications now suggest that he will begin the Bayern clash on the bench, further complicating Madrid’s midfield structure.

So what now?

With Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, and Thiago Pitarch all expected to start, the final attacking midfield slot became a straight battle between Brahim and Guler.

It is here where Arbeloa appears to have made a decisive call.

While Guler has arguably shown greater consistency across the season, there are tactical concerns when he shares the pitch with Bellingham.

Both players naturally drift into similar spaces, often operating between the lines and seeking central pockets.

This overlap can disrupt Madrid’s structure, reducing fluidity and leaving gaps in transition.

Brahim, by contrast, offers a different profile, one that may be better suited for a high-intensity European night.

Over the past two months, he has stepped up impressively, particularly in the absence of Kylian Mbappe.

His ability to carry the ball forward, attack defenders directly, and operate in tighter spaces gives Madrid a more vertical and unpredictable edge.

Ultimately, Arbeloa is prioritising dynamism and penetration over control and positional creativity, signalling an intent to hurt Bayern rather than simply contain them.
