Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa faced the media ahead of a vital La Liga fixture against Levante at the Santiago Bernabeu, addressing a wide range of topics following a turbulent start to his tenure.
Asked about his mindset going into the match, Arbeloa stressed the importance of the occasion and the motivation within the squad.
“Focused and with a lot of energy, with a lot of enthusiasm. For us, it’s a crucial match. Continuing in the fight for La Liga and playing at the Bernabéu motivates us a lot.”
The former Madrid defender began his managerial spell with a painful 2-3 defeat against Albacete in the Copa del Rey, and he was asked how he expects the Bernabeu to react.
Arbeloa made it clear he understands the fans’ frustration but hopes for unity.
“I have a lot of respect for the opinion of the Bernabéu. I understand that Madrid fans are hurt and disappointed with us, but I’m going to ask them for their support.
“In Real Madrid’s 123-year history, titles have been won when the Bernabeu has been behind the players. That’s what I’m going to ask of them.”
There was also an update on Kylian Mbappe, whose fitness has been a major talking point. Arbeloa offered brief but positive news, stating,
“He’s better and he’ll be in the squad.”

Reflecting on the Albacete defeat, Arbeloa took responsibility and pointed to the work ahead, particularly on the physical side alongside Antonio Pintus.
“What happened in Albacete was a lack of ideas, of play, of physical fitness… of many things for which I am responsible.
“With Antonio Pintus, we will work to get the best out of the players in all aspects.”
Arbeloa also explained his recent praise for Vinicius Jr., highlighting leadership and effort.
“When I wanted to praise Vini’s effort, it was because I knew where he was coming from. From a very tough week, with a lot of effort.
“Not only because of his willingness, but also because of the game he played, that’s what I need from Vinicius. That’s what it means to be a leader.
“I’ve also read a lot of criticism of the youth academy. You can be sure that I’ll be defending them, because for me, Madrid’s youth academy is the best in the world and they’ll always have my support.”
On Jude Bellingham, Arbeloa underlined his leadership potential and asked him to step up in that regard.
“We’ve trained for a couple of days and up close you realise what kind of player he is.
“He has to be one of the leaders of this team. I always like to have players who are very mobile, Jude has the ability to create and build.”
Discussing Federico Valverde, Arbeloa praised his versatility and mentality, stating,
“The great thing about Fede is that he would also do well as a goalkeeper. I have a great captain in him and he has proven that in recent months.
“We’ll see him in many positions because he can give us a lot. I’m sure Fede will really enjoy playing football, which is what I want in the end.
“Fede is Madridismo and he is an exceptional representative of this badge.”

There was less positive news regarding Rodrygo, who remains unavailable and Arbeloa confirmed that by revealing,
“Rodry won’t be available tomorrow. He’s recovering from a huge effort last week. Hopefully, he’ll be back soon and available on Tuesday.
“In recent months, he’s returned to his best form. I hope he recovers soon.”
Finally, Arbeloa summed up his vision and responded to comments from Dani Carvajal about hitting rock bottom.
“I understand that people want to find someone to blame, but I work to find solutions. Everything that happens on the pitch is my responsibility.
“When things aren’t going well, I understand that I have to be able to help my players better. I feel very responsible for everything that happens on the pitch.
“The past doesn’t exist. Not when you win European Cups, nor when you’re eliminated by Albacete. That’s Real Madrid,” he concluded.
