Argentina kick off against hosts Nicaragua in the AmeriCup

The Argentina National Team will make its debut at 9:40 p.m. against the host Nicaragua in the 2025 edition of the AmeriCup, which is being held in Managua.

Argentina will begin its participation in the 20th edition of the AmeriCup at 9:40 p.m., facing the host Nicaragua in Managua, in a tournament that will run until the 31st of this month.

The event will take place at the Alexis Argüello Sports Complex, inaugurated in 2017 and with a capacity for 8,000 spectators.

The Albiceleste is part of Group A, along with Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia.

After their debut, Argentina will play on Sunday at 4:10 p.m. against the Dominican Republic and on Monday at 6:40 p.m. against Colombia.

Today, Group B will also see action with Panama vs. Puerto Rico (at 4:10 p.m.) and Venezuela vs. Canada (at 6:40 p.m.).

Meanwhile, Group A is made up of the Bahamas, Brazil, Uruguay, and the United States.

The top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed teams will advance to the quarterfinals.

Regulars

Argentina, the reigning champion, along with Brazil, Canada, and Puerto Rico, are the only teams to have participated in every edition.

The Podium

Since 1999, Argentina has always occupied one of the three steps on the podium. Additionally, it is the team that has played the most finals and won the most medals.

They have played in nine finals (1995, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2017, and 2022), winning three (2001 in Neuquén, 2011 in Mar del Plata, and 2022 in Brazil), always defeating Brazil in the final.

Our Representatives

In the tournament, there will be representatives from Bahía in different roles, although no players.

For example, the Argentine staff includes physiotherapists Paulo Maccari and Leandro Amigo, as well as fitness coach Cristian Lambrecht.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic is coached by Néstor "Che" García, with Martín Luis among the assistants.

Four NBA Players in the Tournament

There will be four players currently in the NBA: the Canadians Leonard Miller (power forward, Minnesota Timberwolves) and Kyshawn George (small forward, Washington Wizards), the Dominican David Jones-García (shooting guard/small forward, San Antonio Spurs), and the Puerto Rican José Alvarado (point guard, New Orleans Pelicans).

Youth in the National Squad

The Argentine squad is full of young players, accompanied by some with more experience inside the National Team, such as Nicolás Brussino, Juan Pablo Vaulet, and José Vildoza, three members of the team that won the 2022 AmeriCup.

Additionally, Francisco Cáffaro participated in the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, among the 12, Dylan Bordón and Santiago Trouet are making their absolute debuts, as they were not part of the qualification process.

"This is a team under construction, not a developed team, so it needs to go through different layers, good moments, moments when the team has to face adversity. That’s the process we are in," explained the coach from Córdoba.
