Argentina request keeps Giay with World Cup delegation as Palmeiras wait | OneFootball

Palmeiras right-back Giay was left out of Lionel Scaloni's Argentina squad for the World Cup, but he will remain with the delegation for now.

According to Nosso Palestra, the AFA asked him to stay with the group for a few more days during the tournament to take part in activities. With Palmeiras' agreement, Giay accepted the request, and there is no set date for his return to Brazil.

The right-back had been hoping for a call-up after appearing in two warm-up friendlies, but was not selected by Scaloni.

Palmeiras have seven players involved at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, namely Gustavo Gómez, Ramón Sosa, Mauricio, Flaco López, Jhon Arias, Emiliano Martínez and Piquerez.

Flaco López stayed on the bench throughout Argentina's 3-0 win over Algeria on Tuesday 16. Lionel Messi scored all three, drawing level with Klose as the World Cup's leading scorer on 16.

Argentina are in Group J with Algeria, Jordan and Austria. The holders face Austria on Monday 22 at 14:00 Brasília time.
