With 71 days until the World Cup, Argentina closed the final FIFA window with wins over Mauritania and Zambia, and now turn to their last two warm-ups before defending the title in Canada, the United States and Mexico.
According to SuperDepor.com, one opponent is confirmed as Serbia, with date and kick-off still to be set, and a second friendly remains under negotiation, potentially against Guatemala. The matches are planned between 1 and 9 June.
These were Argentina’s first games of the year. On Friday 27 March they beat Mauritania 2-1 through Enzo Fernández and Nicolás Paz, a patchy display that faltered in second-half possession. On Tuesday 31 March, with Lionel Messi starting, they responded to weekend criticism by sweeping Zambia aside 5-0.
The national side shifted home to La Bombonera after disputes between AFA and River’s hierarchy, as well as AC/DC concerts at the Monumental.
It is not yet confirmed whether Messi will accept a call-up. The provisional squad must be filed by 11 May, with the final 26 due on 30 May. After the June friendlies, training will lead into group matches against Algeria on Tuesday 16 June at 22:00, Austria on Monday 22 at 14:00, and Jordan on Saturday 27 at 23:00, Argentina time.
