Jhon Arias inspired Palmeiras to a 1-0 win over São Paulo at Morumbis, striking after six minutes and leading a disciplined display. Abel Ferreira was sent off late on for dissent.

According to Globo.com, Arias was Palmeiras’ standout in the player ratings. Flaco López supplied the through-ball for the opener and later made way as fatigue set in.

Arias almost doubled the lead immediately after scoring but shot wide. Full-back Giay later released Allan for a clear chance, however the midfielder tried to round Rafael and the opportunity went begging.

At the back, captain Gustavo Gómez dominated in the air, limiting Calleri with five clearances and three tackles. Murilo had shakier moments, though he nearly scored with a fierce effort from distance.

Carlos Miguel had little to do yet was booked for delaying a restart in first-half stoppage time. Piquerez offered steady support to Arias and was secure defensively.

Palmeiras’ midfield balance shifted after changes, with Lucas Evangelista improving the build-up and Emiliano Martínez shielding the defence. Maurício’s energetic first half faded before his withdrawal, López departed on 30 minutes of the second half, and Marlon Freitas was booked then substituted on 17 minutes. Vitor Roque could not ignite counters, Andreas Pereira was cautioned for a heavy foul on Cauly, Felipe Anderson made little impact and Ramón Sosa arrived too late to rate.
