Liverpool manager Arne Slot has offered clarity on when Alexander Isak could return to action, with the Champions League quarter final against Paris Saint Germain pencilled in as a realistic comeback point. The Swedish striker has been sidelined for three months after suffering a broken leg in the 2-1 victory at Tottenham in December.
Isak, signed for £125 million, has only recently resumed light training and remains in the final stages of rehabilitation. Liverpool supporters eager to see him back in red may need to temper expectations, as Slot made clear that match sharpness will take time.
Slot was candid when discussing Isak’s readiness and what fans should expect in the short term.
“Alex will available [for PSG], yes,” Slot confirmed. “The question is what you mean around ‘being ready’.

“If you want to have the player who played exactly a year ago against us in the Carabao Cup final and was too good for us on that day then I would tell you I have my doubts about that after seven or eight months out.
“But I expect that I can use him for minutes. Exactly what I get from that I cannot tell you because he hasn’t trained with the team even once.”
The Liverpool boss highlighted that Isak has not yet rejoined full team training at the AXA Training Centre, underlining the careful approach being taken.
Liverpool are considering various options to build Isak’s fitness, including potential behind closed doors matches. However, Slot stressed that a gradual return remains essential.
“He still is not able to train with the team and he hasn’t been able to train with the team and usual rehab is before you start to train with the team and then you play games. You don’t, after one training session, play 45 minutes or 90 minutes.”
The striker will not feature for Sweden during the international break, a decision that reflects Liverpool’s priority to manage his recovery internally.
While excitement around Alexander Isak continues to grow, Slot pointed towards next season as the stage where Liverpool will see him at his peak.
“It is 100% sure fans will see the best of him next season and we are trying to make sure that we will see close to the best or the best of him this season.
“I am just as excited as the fans to have him back because I think it is fair to say that 90% of our games, we’ve had more chances than the other team, so if we had one of the best strikers in the world playing for you then that would have usually, usually, meant that you would have had more points.”
Liverpool remain optimistic that even limited minutes from Isak could prove decisive in the closing months of the campaign, particularly in Europe.
