Arne Slot confirms fixture for Isak’s Liverpool debut | OneFootball

Arne Slot has said he did not want to take any risk with Alexander Isak after leaving out the Liverpool forward at Burnley.

Isak was omitted from the squad that will face Burnley in the Premier League this afternoon as he continues to build fitness.

The record recruit, who joined Liverpool in a £125m British record deal on deadline day, has spent much of the summer training alone as he looked to engineer an exit from Newcastle United.

Slot said he wants to ensure Isak is fully prepared when he makes his Liverpool debut, which he confirmed will come against Atletico Madrid in Wednesday night’s Champions League opener.

“We’ve decided it is the best for him to have a proper week of training instead of every time going for five or 10 minutes of playing,” Slot said to Sky Sports.

“I can assure the fans that he will be involved on Wednesday [against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League] – but this game came a bit too early.”
