Big changes are coming to Liverpool’s midfield and attacking sectors this summer.

Richard Hughes and Arne Slot have once again got plans to overhaul the squad - with several signings in mind. We could see new central midfielders arrive as cover and competition while one-v-one specialists will be sought out wide.

These plans plunge the futures of a lot of Liverpool players into doubt.

Curtis Jones could depart the midfield for example while Federico Chiesa and of course Mohamed Salah will be leaving from the attack.

Harvey Elliott not wanted by Arne Slot

One other player who has been hoping for a chance under Slot is Harvey Elliott.

The Premier League champions sanctioned a one-year loan deal for the England under-21 international last summer with Aston Villa chosen as his destination.

The midfielder-cum-attacker was then expected to complete a £35m permanent deal so long as certain conditions were met.

If Elliott played in 10 Premier League games the deal would become active but it’s clear Unai Emery has no intention of sanctioning the move.

Elliott will therefore return to Anfield with just one year left on his contract.
