Arne Slot in contention for surprise new job after Eddie Howe’s Newcastle exit | OneFootball

Former Liverpool boss Arne Slot is a candidate to replace Matthias Jaissle as Al-Ahli manager, according to talkSPORT. 

Eddie Howe has stepped down from his role at Newcastle United in a bombshell development. Jaissle is set to take over after leaving Al-Ahli.

Slot has emerged as a top contender to fill the vacancy at the Saudi Pro League club. The Dutchman has been out of a job since being sacked by Liverpool in May. 

He guided the Reds to the Premier League title in his debut season. However, the club endured a challenging 2025-26 campaign, finishing fifth in the league table. 

They also broke several unwanted records last term, including the highest number of defeats (20) in a season across all competitions this century. 

Slot had the opportunity to become Fulham’s new manager after Marco Silva’s departure, but he turned down their offer. 

The 47-year-old was also linked with AC Milan before they appointed Ruben Amorim. 

He is now on the radar of Al-Ahli, who are one of the most successful clubs in Saudi Arabia with nine league titles. They are also considering Vitor Pereira. 

Nottingham Forest sacked him in June despite leading the club to safety after replacing Sean Dyche.
