Days after his departure from Liverpool, Arne Slot has been offered to Milan.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, the Dutchman has been proposed to Zlatan Ibrahimović, senior adviser at the club, through their mutual agent, Rafaela Pimenta.

There’s an upheaval carnival in the red half of Italy’s fashion capital right now. Having been distant title challengers for most of the season, Milan have concluded their Serie A campaign by dropping out of the Champions League spots on the final day, triggering a massive exodus throughout their sporting structure.

Max Allegri, having been discussing summer targets with the club not too long ago, has been dismissed alongside chief executive officer Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada.

Ibrahimović, a rare survivor of the RedBird clearout, is working alongside Gerry Cardinale to figure out the next steps. There has been talk of Ralf Rangnick being handed the keys to the club’s sporting infrastructure, though the current Austria men’s national team head coach is deep in preparations for the World Cup.

In the meantime, other names have come up. Mauricio Pochettino had been mentioned in recent weeks, but Corriere report the US men’s national team coach is no longer being considered for the role. Pimenta’s position has brought Slot into Milan consideration, with the club looking at a technical operator willing to work with young players under non-Champions League circumstances, though his arrival will predicate heavily on whether Milan bring in Rangnick.

If Rangnick comes in, he will want a manager from his own pool of candidates, many of whom are likely to be Red Bull alumni. Al-Ahli’s Matthias Jaissle has been mentioned in recent weeks, while winning the Conference League with Crystal Palace recently has also bolstered the credentials of the now-on-the-market Oliver Glasner, who also won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Slot needs structure

Arne Slot has demonstrated that he is capable of delivering league titles as well as bring results with a makeshift squad, something Milan are likely to be left with once the RedBird clearout reaches the dressing room.

For the here and now, Slot could help Milan ensure the late-season debacle does not come about next year, though his ability to deliver that upward trajectory will depend on what kind of sporting structure exists at the club — if at all.

That goes for many other managers, especially the technical ones Cardinale and Ibrahimović are reportedly tagretting. Be in Rangnick or someone else, they are going to need someone at the helm of their sporting directorship for any new coach.
