Robertson has been reduced to play a bit-part role for Liverpool this season
Arne Slot has suggested that regular first-team football is a factor behind Andy Robertson’s decision to leave Liverpool.
It was announced on Thursday that Robertson is to depart Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season, thus becoming the second high-profile exit this summer along with Mohamed Salah.
In his statement, the Scotland international said “now is the time for me to move on” having started just six times in the Premier League this season.
Robertson had been a mainstay in the Liverpool defence following his move from Hull in the summer of 2017, but has fallen behind Milos Kerkez in the pecking order this season.
The 32-year-old could have left in January amid talks with Tottenham but opted to stay. Though, he has started just three games in all competitions since the transfer window closed.
Asked if a reduced role was the reason Robertson has opted to leave, Slot said: "I think that's a question you have to ask him.
“But I think everyone wants as much first-team football as possible."

Robertson enjoyed nine trophy-laden years at Anfield, winning two Premier League titles, a Champions League, the FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, the Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the Community Shield.
His farewell tour begins this weekend at home to Fulham in the Premier League and Slot has paid a glowing tribute to the outgoing club legend.
“First of all, he's had many great seasons here not only as a player but as a great person as well,” Slot said on Friday.
“I got to know him as a great person. Every team-mate of his will tell you how funny he is, how great he is and I think that's been shown on social media as well.
"But what I remember most about him is the intensity he plays with and we've seen and learned something about intensity two days ago but, I can also remember Robbo making a press from the left-back position to the right wing a few years ago and I showed it to my players I was working with back then.
"He's won everything at this club, served his club and really loves this club. Been a great nine years for him. This season he didn't play as much as he was used to and as a result of that he's leaving."
