Slot was appointed to replace Jürgen Klopp in the summer of 2024 – an unenviable task – but his side went onto win the league at a canter in the Dutch manager's first season at the club.
However, the 2025/26 season started slowly, not helped by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota in the summer or with some of his new expensive signings taking time to adapt to life at Anfield.
A fifth placed finish followed for Liverpool, which guaranteed Champions League football but saw the team finish 25 points behind winners Arsenal.
Reports from the club had previously suggested that they would stick with Slot despite trophyless season and 12 league defeats across the campaign. However, the club have now announced their decision to sack their coach.
"That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying," a statement said about Slot's sacking.
"The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and – most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves – successful.
"As such, our appreciation for everything he has achieved could not be greater, particularly as it was underpinned by a work ethic, a diligence and a level of expertise which further underlined our view that he is a leader in his field."
Early rumours suggest that former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is the favourite to take the job.
