Arne Slot has confirmed goalkeeper Alisson is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

The Brazilian shot stopper suffered the injury in the Champions League defeat to Galatasaray and Slot says he will not be part of his national team squad over the break.

“Alisson is not part of the squad tomorrow and he’s not going to travel to Brazil with the national team,” he said.

On how long Alisson could be out for, Slot added: “That depends on how fast the recovery goes. It’s clear he’s not there Saturday and clear he’s not going to play for Brazil and I would be surprised if he was there for the first game after the international break but things can go a bit faster, or a bit slower.

“It’s always difficult to say the amount of days and weeks but for the upcoming games he won’t be part of us or Brazil.”

Meanwhile, both Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa are doubts for the game against Chelsea on Saturday.

“Hugo is going to train again today so let’s see where he is,” Slot said.

“The same can be said for Federico so we have to wait and see after the session.”

Alisson’s injury is set to present goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili with his Premier League debut and Slot says he is full of confidence in the Georgian international.

“We’ve seen against Southampton (in the Carabao Cup) how well he has adjusted,” Slot said. “We knew we were bringing in a very good goalkeeper but when he plays his first game it’s always the best way of seeing if he’s adjusted well or not.

“We saw in that game how well he has adjusted to our club which is not a surprise because he’s a quality goalkeeper and now he can do what Kelleher had to do so many times in the past, replacing Alisson, hopefully in a way like he did so many times before.”
