Liverpool manager Arne Slot is not keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer, a report has revealed.
Alexander-Arnold is approaching the final six months of his contract and will be free to discuss a transfer overseas in just a matter of weeks, with Real Madrid desperate to win the race for his signature and rivals Barcelona tipped to try snap up the Liverpool right-back.
While Liverpool's preference is to retain Alexander-Arnold, numerous reports have named Frimpong as a likely replacement, but Sky Sports Germany suggest that is not the case.
The Reds have been impressed by Frimpong, who managed 14 goals and 12 assists for Bundesliga winners Leverkusen last season, but Slot does not believe the 24-year-old's attack-minded approach is right for his side.
Frimpong plays as a wing-back under Xabi Alonso and has even been deployed as a winger at international level, but Slot wants a traditional right-back for a four-man defence and does not believe Frimpong would be the right fit.
Liverpool have offered a new contract to Alexander-Arnold and still hope to convince the right-back to sign, although it was recently reported that he has been "seduced" by the idea of playing for Real Madrid.
However, a recent interview saw Alexander-Arnold wax lyrical about Slot and voice his excitement towards being part of the Liverpool project, further fuelling the uncertainty around the conclusion to this saga.
