Flamengo announced that Arrascaeta and Bruno Henrique will be honoured with busts at Gávea on 15 November, the club’s 131st anniversary.
The headquarters currently has 12 busts, nine of the 1981 world champion generation, with Zico commemorated by a full statue rather than a bust, and Tita not included. The other three tributes are to coach Carlinhos Violino, basketball pivot Olivinha and founder José Agostinho Pereira da Cunha.
Arrascaeta will be the first foreigner so honoured. The Uruguayan is Flamengo’s top-scoring foreign player with 105 goals and has made the most appearances among overseas players with 378 matches.
The pair will be the first footballers added since that golden era. From 2019 to 2026 they won six Cariocas, three Libertadores, three Brasileiros, three Supercopas, two Copas do Brasil and one Recopa Sul Americana. Arrascaeta is a joint record-holder for titles alongside Bruno Henrique.
He called it a great honour and spoke of pride in wearing the shirt. He hoped his son Milano would share his love of football and, if possible, go on to achieve important things with Flamengo. He wants to be remembered for giving everything and putting the team before himself, sharing the moment with his family.
