Arrascaeta is edging towards his best at Flamengo, despite a gruelling run and few natural stand ins. His fitness looks set to be tested through to the World Cup.
He has three goals and one assist in his past six outings. Since facing Santos he started four times and came on twice. According to Globo.com, staff are limiting his load to avoid new issues.
He has completed only two matches in 2026, both under Filipe Luís, against Internacional in Brasileirão round two and Lanús in the Recopa second leg. Flamengo have steadily built his workload for the decisive stretch.
He was among the last to debut after the first team returned in the Carioca, with the original plan kept despite a directive to accelerate returns.
With Carrascal suspended and Paquetá injured, he was used earlier than planned against Vitória, coming on soon after half time and making it count. Flamengo visit Atlético-MG on Sunday on Arena MRV’s synthetic surface.
Jardim told him he was alone in that role with Paquetá and Carrascal out, so they would likely hold him for the second half amid a tight schedule. He argued Flamengo need at least two players per position in Brazilian football’s workload.
He is likely to keep seeing many minutes given limited options. Paquetá has no return date after a left thigh oedema and may only be back mid next month. Carrascal could play in the Libertadores but is out of the league until the Vasco derby on the third of May.
