Arrascaeta faced heavy criticism after Flamengo’s 1-1 draw with Corinthians, then posted a brief message on social media. According to Coluna Do Fla, the Uruguayan No 10 was targeted for choosing not to release the ball to Samuel Lino inside the box.
He said his history at the club had been written with loyalty in an Instagram Stories post, alongside a training-ground image taken in front of the team bus. The photo was from the archive, as he is with Uruguay on international duty during the FIFA window on Monday 23.
Six minutes into the second half, Arrascaeta took possession on the right under pressure from two markers. Lino had broken free on the left with a clear chance, but the playmaker held onto the ball, leaving the forward frustrated.
Soon after, in a 50-50 with Breno Bidon, Evertton Araújo was shown a red card unjustly. Flamengo, who had been on top, then had to sit in to protect the draw in the eighth round of the Brasileirão.
Earlier in the campaign, former coach Filipe Luís had acknowledged Arrascaeta was below his usual level. After the Corinthians match, Leonardo Jardim addressed his form, saying he is not yet at the level expected and that the best of him will appear as the season progresses.
Jardim added they are keen not to overload the midfielder and that both staff and supporters retain their belief in him.
