Arrascaeta says Flamengo must change a lot after Recopa defeat | OneFootball

Arrascaeta called for major changes after Flamengo lost 1-0 at Lanús in the Recopa on Thursday, urging a response at the Maracanã.

Rodrigo Castillo struck the only goal as the Copa Sudamericana holders beat the Libertadores champions, giving the Argentinians a slender edge. Afterwards, Arrascaeta spoke to ESPN.

"We have to change a lot for the return match. Today nothing worked, it is time to work and respond at home."

"We came to win, unfortunately we did not get the result. We have to admit they were better than us in many aspects."

Named Rei da América in 2025, the Uruguayan has started 2026 quietly, with one Brasileirão goal in the draw with Internacional, no assists, and only one full 90 minutes.

"We are coming back little by little. The calendar does not help much, but it is not an excuse, we have to be much better in the return match."

The sides meet again next Thursday at 21:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã, where the tie will be decided. Flamengo need a one-goal win to force extra time, or a bigger margin to win outright. A draw or another Argentine victory would give Lanús the title.

Before that, Flamengo face Madureira on Sunday 22 at 20:30 at the Maracanã in the Campeonato Carioca semi-finals.
